Met up with 3 friends in Laguna and luckily we all found great parking spaces at Divers.

At first look from the cliff, the water looked great (Calm and Clear…..for the time being, further details below)

We kicked out to the exposed rocks between both coves. From that point we dropped down to the crack in back of the reef. We moved into deeper water assuming there would be another reef structure (Based on the Saint Brendan info map). However, we soon found out that what was in back of us was what we were looking for. We all went up and went back :11: By the way, the fog was SO bad that you could not see the shore. Thank you Mr. Compass.

After we dropped back down again, we decided to move across the reef heading toward Shaw’s. The wall we dove was beautiful we spotted some Nidi’s, and Octopus along the way. We also spotted about 3 dead Lobster. Two were whole but one was in 2 pieces. This I thought was very odd. As we moved along, we split into 2 groups (The Vis got worse…lol) my buddy and I kept going enjoying the wall until the surge and visibility got pretty bad. We popped up again and we were almost at the gazebo on the left side of Shaw’s (again, barely visible in the fog). We took another reading and wend back down to start our way back.

When we first started back, is was not so bad but then the surge started to kick in and is seemed like we were going no wear. Because of this, we popped back up to see what the heck was going on. The waves were starting to get bigger and they were fiercely breaking over the top of the exposed reef. We did a surface swim around the exposed rocks took another reading and dropped back down. The way back to the beach was nice; we took our time and moved at a leisurely pace. Even with the surge at the end, the dive turned out to be great.

Smaller images from Marineland today. Smaller, because they are terrible if I enlarge them. :D

Unless they had meat inside, they were likely molts. Lobsters need to shed their shells every August in the same way reptiles outgrow their skin. They break their shell between the tail and end of the body and emerge with a new. soft shell that will serve them for a few more months.

After the dive, we dropped by Heisler Park to say hi to Diver Jan. We didn't see her, but we did run into MaxBottomtime, which is always a pleasure. Stopped into the local dive shop and the manager said it's almost impossible to find the wreck and that he was beginning to think it was a "figment of everyone's imagination." Naaah, it's there....... somewhere. :05:[/QUOTE]

Hey John,

Sorry Nathaniel and I missed you. We ended up having to stop at the LDS on our way to the beach, due to my son needed lead weights for his weight belt. My BF was supposed to bring him the lead, but he got hung up and wasn't going to make it down to Heisler until 12:30 or so.

The barge does exist. Sometime, you and your son will have to join http://www.southcoastdivers.com on one of their weekend dives when the dive Cleo Street. Rich Parker tends to find it everytime.

Nathaniel and I will be diving with the group on Sunday 11/20th. I'm DMing the Encore with Reefseekers (http://www.Reefseekers.com) to San Clemente Island on Saturday (leaving Friday night) in which I will probably take Nathaniel along as well.

If we don't meet up sometime this weekend, hopefully in a couple of weeks. It would be great for my son to meet divers his own age.

Are you sure the Dead Lobsters weren't Moltings??? I know when I was diving there on Friday, there were quite a few out and about. Big ones too! To bad it's protected...or is it? Someone was fishing off the exposed reef when I exited my second dive.

Look fine to me Phil and I have seen the large ones! Keep posting! I am glad one of us is taking pictures .

Thanks Jan! That would be great. We weren't able to stay at Heisler very long anyway, because I promised my wife I'd help her get ready for the BIG garage sale Saturday. Thanks for the info on the barge too.

They did look like there was no meat inside. Thanks for the interesting info.
