Doc Intrepid:<Monty Python voice> At's not bein' a rebel! Bein' a rebel is putting your billy ring on the right side and hanging a reel from it!
I tried putting a billy ring on my light canister one time, talk about a mess.

scubaguy:I tried putting a billy ring on my light canister one time, talk about a mess.
scubaguy:I am actually not refering to the Left chest Dring , I am refering to the left dring on the Belt, although I still dont see as entaglement hazard if one were to wear one on the chest but on the same hand I would see no reason to put one there ( Plus it would look pretty strange).
Anyway I like my big ugly non DIR left ( Belt ) billy ring.
I mean....THE original question...from ShaggsBCS:I'm just offering a viewpoint and an answer to your original question...
BCS:oops....sorry scubaguy...same would apply though...personally, I use a $1.50 d-ring and keeper...I keep it uniform and then I just put a few more minutes towards skill mastery... and besides, it saves me some $$$ over the billy ring.......
Sure, you are absolutely right that they are not huge entanglement hazards. But what they do manage to do though, is that if/when you do find yourself hung up in a line, they (billy rings) are at least a bit more prone to catch that line and hinder unentanglement than a simple d-ring and keeper...obviously the answer to that is to never get hung up in line....what a perfect world that would be...
I'm not trying to convince you to do one or the other...if you like that billy ring, that's fine with me. I'm just offering a viewpoint and an answer to your original question...which is the KISS principle...If you are looking for some billy rings, I am willing to let mine go real cheap...they just sit there in my shop now...I prefer this KISS principle.... I've already been through the "billy-ring phase" of my diving career.....
and hey!! what's with stealing my name?? ...www.scubaguys.com

WreckWriter:If you put it right behind your can (put it on the strap before you put the can on) it works nicely for holding a reel or similar.
