Dave4868 and I took advantage of ok conditions to dive Nubble Light this AM as our a last dive of the year. We weren't the only one diving. There was one other diver going in as I arrived.

It was high tide, no wind and dead calm seas when I arrived. It was cloudy and air temp 37 degrees. As suited up, the winds picked up a bit from the south. Was pleased to see from the surface the vis looked ok. We entered at 10:40

The water temp was 37 degrees at depth (67 fsw), 39 degrees at the surface. We dove to the other side of island and back. On way back, tried to find the resident Northern Red Anemone to feed. The vis was about 10-15. I'll take it. It was a good dive with with 1 hour bottom time for the two of us.

Saw a sea raven and a huge bug under the overhang by the plaque.

As surfaced, another diver was suiting up. The winds picked up a bit more and by the time we left, it started flurrying and then turning to snow.

We wrapped up with good burger at Ruby's before heading back.

Glad got out and dive with another fellow diver from the board.

Thanks for the invite, reefseal, I enjoyed the dive! Pics follow.

Great post, i love diving in Rockport Mass. I got my first diving there, with Dave Stillman, Cape Ann divers, and have never looked back.I love Cape Ann ! You guys could not have ended a year better than a dive there!!! Have a great New Year

Great post, and good timing! Hope you made it home safely before driving conditions really deteriorated most everywhere.
Keep up the postsand pictures. You guys are inspirational.

Thanks! It started to snow about 20 minutes after we climbed out!

Speaking of inspiration, I've got to give credit to reefseal for getting me psyched to dive yesterday! I'm really getting to be a slug, but his enthusiasm was contagious!

When I arrived, a miserably frigid south wind was blowing and I dejectedly thought that there would be no way to avoid getting chilled while suiting up. I quickly put on a snowmobile suit to stay warm while I set up my gear. Thankfully, within 20 minutes, the wind calmed right down and switched back to the predicted direction from the west! Then I suited up and the brief exposure wasn't bad at all!

The drive home was marginal at best. I saw several vehicles that had lost control and gone off the Interstate. It was "slicker than a spurt of duck-doo on a mossy rock".... :shocked2:

Still, that dive day was well worth the effort! (Especially the great clam chowder and cheeseburger at Ruby's!). :D

Greetings from the other North Coast (Pacific NW).

Hearing from other crazy year round divers is inspirational. Thanks for the pictures!!!

Tomorrow we will be heading out to the South Jetty (Pacific Ocean - South Beach, Oregon) and dive. It will be high exchange (12+ feet) so it will be either really clear or really murky.

A couple of weeks ago we hit the Crab Hole (Waldport, Oregon) and it was 41 degrees. I was almost ready to trade my 7mm wetsuit for a drysuit!!!

Keep up the all year round diving and reports.

You've got some hair, fer shur! Diving wet in the low 40's? Yikes! :shocked2:

I'm such a wuss, I wear enough insulation so I don't feel the cold anywhere! My winter insulation requires over 50 lbs of lead to offset its bouyancy! It's a load, but I'm always toasty warm! :D

I'll have to check out your forums for dive reports. You've got great diving out there!

Good luck with your dive! :)

Inspiring... for all of us who can not go diving ;o) Looks like you had a great dive, decent viz, decent depth and great buddies ! 2 weeks "stuck" down in NJ in my in-laws... getting ready again to go diving once back !!! I see water temperatures are way down now but I guess Nubble light is more exposed than Cape Ann, right ?

We missed having you along! :)

Water temps must have dropped a lot with the recent cold weather we had. Might be a little colder than Rockport.

By the way, water temps for the harbor in Rockport are a good indicator for those in Sandy Bay and at the beaches. This site gives the water temp in real time.

Hi Guys, I love the photos. From the photos, it (Nubble light) looks like a nice area to try. Never been there, can you give me some info on it? (where is it,access, depth, vis etc) Thanks
