My wife and I are planning a mini getaway for mid April and I suggested the Keys (being a diver). What are water temps like during that time of year? We will be leaving out of Miami. Suggestions on best place for diving husband and non diving wife to both have fun? She likes pampering. I like diving and photography.

Any thoughts for this Texas Swamp Diver??

Thanks

My wife and I are going to the Keys for our first time the end of April. I'm going to be diving on Looe Key. From what I've gathered on this board, the middle Keys have the best reefs, Key Largo has the best wreck dives, and Key West is for snorkelers. When I called to make my diving reservations, the person I talked to told me what the water temps would be, but I don't remember. She did say I would be fine with my 3mm suit. As for pampering, I doubt there's much resort development in the middle Keys.

Back in early February the water temp was 72 off Key Largo. I would expect that by now it is pushing 74-75. Key Largo has several "resorts" like Sheraton and Marriott. Take a look at their websites via net search. Both kind of steep. Numerous good dive operators right in Key Largo, several of which such as Blue Water divers and Conch Republic are active participants on this Board. Have fun.

We had 79 degrees on Looe Key today. The water is definitely warming up.

If you want pampering, I'd look at the Pier House in Key West. Really nice place with a spa on the property. You dive Key West if you like, or it's a pretty reasonable trip up the keys to dive Looe Key and the Busch.
