IMO-- this sub forum for DIR is a good idea....I just really don't feel it needs a set of 'Special' rules and MOD's policing what 'they' think is DIR and not. Not being of the 'flock' I do occasionally see a thread that asks a safety question that I persl. feel needs a reply that may not be DIR....I feel I should be able to post such a reply without it being struck from the thread as have occurred of recent. Just lighten up and allow the sub forum to function as most all the others here on SB,,,that is very well without all the 'Special' treatment. Heck we are all divers first...so we have differing views at times, that is what makes life interesting.

I couldn't agree more. A forum should be an ongoing discussion... If it can't be, don't call it the DIR forum, call it the "DIR Q&A".

I nominate JeffG for Supreme Chancellor and Overlord of the ScubaBoard DIR Forums. All in favor?

That is great you feel that way, but the problem is every time something comes up in this forum, people like yourself come in and start arguing for dual bladder wings and such. If you really feel that strongly, resort to a PM to the OP. You seem to be on an anti-DIR crusade, which is fine, but take it elsewhere please.

This isn't about censorship or heavy moderation. It is about having a place for DIR divers to discuss their style of diving. Just like solo divers have theirs. I stay out of that forum, and in general, the DIR divers here respect the solo divers' place to discuss what they do.

The forum has rules, the rules are there for a purpose. The purpose of the forum is to discuss things that are DIR, not to have endless DIR/anti-DIR debates.

Aye.. Why not. TS, If you are not happy with the way things are now, why not bring some new life in? Perhaps just totally step back and let someone else run with it - totally hands off since it wouldn't be run the way you are expecting it to be now. See how it goes.

I think you have missed the whole point of my reply.....I will inject my thoughts when it comes to safety of divers and good choices....not just what someone else said was the way...the only way of doing it right. The DIR philosophy is pot holed full of issues that do effect safety of divers. Censorship on the sub forum is crazy and out of control. You are welcome to come over to the Solo diver sub forum and inject your ideas...we would welcome it. Please remember we are all divers first. ;)

Sure it is. And at this point I should ask you what your DIR training is. But I'm not going to do that, because it is posts like these-blanket generalizations about DIR from people who's sole exposure to it is the internet-that drive me nuts. A post such as your's here is a perfect example of why the forum is set up the way it is. The next logical post would be "no it isn't" and then a 40 page pissing match would ensue, with JeffG ultimately stepping in and effectively flaming everyone and making me spit diet coke all over my keyboard. Good entertainment, but not a very effective way to discuss DIR.

i'll try again because i hate to give up on people

this board is full of forums where you can argue the pros and cons of DIR ... start a thread in, for example, Tech Diving

this forum (this one tiny forum in the inmensity that is Scubaboard) is different

here, we discuss the details of DIR but do not engage in defending the DIR way

why? because without this forum, any discussion of DIR degenerated into a pro-DIR v. anti-DIR discussion

read this post three times before you answer

;)

listen up, la guy

this is what happens outside this forum every time, and it gets old having to deal with it, and it takes up time that should rather go to other DIR topics

you don't like DIR? fine

those of us who do, would like to discuss it in peace

and to take it one step further.

There is no one resource here that can say what is/is not DIR.

So to have a forum that only "DIR answers" seems to me to be a bit pointless. We can have the herd give the answer, but that means us (as users) will have to put up with all the non-DIR answers being provided.

Quite frankly, I think it would just be easier to change the DIR forum to a place where DIR can be talked about/debated/discussed and remove the current distinction of this forum.

Then the only thing that requires Moderation is the standard TOS violations. (the Mods wouldn't have to worry about if an answer given was a DIR one or not. Let the herd decide that.)

But then again, thats only my opinion FWIW.
