Hi. New to this forum, and to diving, and so I've been shopping around for some starter gear--a mask, fins, snorkel, etc. I consided just buying online out of convenience and best prices, but being that this shop was in my area, I figured why not stop by. Boy, am I glad I did. The shop is run by an older gentleman, Howard Pruyne, who I learned has been a PADI instructor for almost 40 years. He basically spent the entire afternoon with me in this very small shop in dicey North Philadelphia, taking the time to show just what I need, as well as what I don't. He even advised against buying a BCD just yet, even though i was prepared to. Anyway, just wanted to put the word out for those in the Philly area (though he does have a website he sells from), if you want old fashioned service from a really personable and knowledgeable fellow, check out the Diving Bell, on N. Broad St at Ridge Ave.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. Service like you described is hard to find these days. Welcome to diving!!

They don't make dive shops like the Diving Bell and they don't make shop operators/instructors like Howard any more. I've visited him a few times and always had fun. If you live in the greater Philadelphia area, consider visiting.

Good diving, Craig

Unfortunately Howard has closed down. I bought his inventory and compressor. If you need anything please contact us at Scubadelphia.com. We are the only dive shop in Philadelphia. 267-343-5590
