The dark side is calling....

I have started to make my transistion to the dark side today. I was doing an internship for DM and the instuctor let me use his bp/w set-up to try it out and I am hooked, i couldn't beleive how well it fit and was so snug against my back. It felt like I wasn't wearing anything at all! the best part about it, i felt like i couldn't go into any other postion aside from being horizontal! It was perfect...i order my set-up today!

Something I have always wondered while wearing BP with crotch strap,how much longer does it take to doff a victims gear when doing a rescue scenario?

Until you get back on the boat! Diving with doubles will make you feel like you're really not wearing anything when you go back to singles. But you're right - in the water the rig is very nice.

The harness is usually very simple to get someone out of unless the person is wearing an unconventional design. In my opinion easier than a typical BCD. It's just that while you might be able to get someone out of the water with gear on in the case of a BCD and single tank, it's that much more difficult with the much heavier and bulkier doubles - and stage bottles in most cases.

During an emergency you cut it off... A big z knife slices through the 2"
webbing like butter .. also works quite nicely on dry suits !!

Also shears for the zipper parts of the dry suit work well.

Actually, when we went through this in Rescue, you pop the waist strap, pull off the crotch strap (this is quick) and then pull the rig off by putting the victim's arms up over his head and sliding the straps off. It's quick and easy, once you figure out how to do it. Of course, there is always the option of cutting the straps as well.
