Having a category of paper cut to amputation with a chainsaw is a bit too broad.Yea. Pretty-to-extremely sideways I’d say
Long time ago I've asked here a question, if there was actually a proof that comps make diving safer and I was condemned as a troll (which, of course, I am). However, regardless of my trolling, the March issue of Scuba Diving had a story (pp 32-3) of how a diver got DCS while following his comp guidelines. Makes me wonder...Whether or not a technical diver should use a computer is still a hot topic for many people. I posted an opinion here that some might find interesting.
...because no one has ever gotten bent when not using a computer, right?Long time ago I've asked here a question, if there was actually a proof that comps make diving safer and I was condemned as a troll (which, of course, I am). I agree. One typical overstatement is (with some admitted exaggeration) that people who use computers just jump in the water with no idea of a plan. My dive planning with a computer is just as complete as it was before I used one. Now, I do a lot of dives with the same planned bottom times and deco gases, so I don't need to repeat a plan I know well in great detail, but that would be true in either case. What I find funniest about these "debates" is the seeming belief many show that it can only be 100% one way or the other. In the real world it isn't all about absolutes, there is a lot of middle ground and overlap.
Y'know, this entire discussion reminds me strongly of how some racers talk about how unnecessary antilock brakes are for them.
Exactly. Except maybe for Crocodile Dundee, people do not like to deal with probabilities, they want 100% yes or now, black or white, friend or foe etc. They tolerate 50 colors of grey only in soft porn. What I find funniest about these "debates" is the seeming belief many show that it can only be 100% one way or the other.
