Those are some crazy rumors. The answer is discussing and introducing a different perspective, you'd be surprised at the rumors that are only the tip of the iceberg around here...or just a variation of an actual event.
Rumors and gossip propagate easier in a vacuum. This forum is so highly moderated there is no chance for sides to speak their mind about edgy issues, especially if it is offensive to your pals.
GI3 had some good points in his rants, his contributions would be so highly moderated here the humor and entertainment would be gone.
There are instructors who have committed stupid crimes, stolen from friends, violated standards, abandoned students, wars between instructors and shops that when known make their biased output clearly understood.
Those aren't rumors, those are incidents that actually happen that you and instructors take great pains to hide. imo it's sometimes about libel and slander vulnerabilities, sometimes to protect your friends or advertisers, agency agreements...in the end it's filtering truth.
There is nothing wrong with talking about things that happen or people who act the fool. Sometimes correlating information is the best way to know the truth.
The best way is to ask the person directly, face to face. I've made it a point to seek people out and ask directly what happened. You'd be surprised how it clears things up, some were not so comfortable conversations, it is what it is.
I can't wait to ask a certain someone about their definition of theft, it's going to be grand.
