As for the check list, yes the strobe fires (better than it did for the Reef camera :D ) and it is pointed at the intended victim. I just don't think it will work with this camera. Though I would LOVE for someone to prove me wrong! :D

Wish I could, but don't know enough about this strobe to really help. If the strobe has a sensor then your camera's flash should trigger it...you may have to turn OFF your camera's preflash and try it that way...

As for strobes that should work with the camera, I am thinking probably INON 180 or 220s or Ike's range. Sea & Sea probably have a contender, too.

Alcina. Our wonderful non-configurable S500s won't allow us to turn off the pre-flash.

NetDoc.. I use the Sea&Sea YS25DX. (I should have got the YS90DX for more light). Are you seeing the strobe fire at all? Can you tell if it fires for the first pre-flash? If so, that's what makes the pictures dark. The canon sensor detects all that light from the pre-flash & the strobe and thinks it's really bright out. If this is the cause and your strobe can't ignore the pre-flash, there's not much hope for it working since we can't turn off that pre-flash.

OK... where is the best place to get such a strobe???

One of the best places to get camera 'stuff' is Yuzo in Japan. UWCamera

If you're looking at the S&S YS90 get the DX NOT the Auto. You'll have to convert his price from yen to dollars. Send him an email to info@naturephoto.co.jp and tell him what camera you have and what you want. He's a big help, he'll know what works best with your camera. Plus he isn't a hard sell kinda guy. His shipping is cheaper when he figures it rather than going through his website ordering thing. I always get stuff from him in 4 days or less. He prefers payment through PayPal.

Well, it appears that the price of the strobe/arm/optical/yada, yada, yada will eclipse the price of the camera and housing. That's kinda nuts!

yes... that was my reaction too. thus, i am sticking with
my non-upgradeable (but easy to use) SD100

but there are bargains to be had, if you keep your eyes
open. used is definetely cheaper

Netdoc.. The price thing surprised me as well. My camera+housing was under the strobe/tray/fiber-optic cable. That's why I haven't booted the YS25DX in favor of the 90..

The strobe should be able to be used if you get another housing setup.

I keep going back and forth between the S500, A85 and A95. I think the A95 is the one I want but no housing is out for it yet.
