So much to know... man.

At least you are in the right place and headed in the right direction.

Is it just coincidence that my girlfriend has decided she just has to have one too?

;)

Metridium calls it a P-weight... I call it a channel weight.

Complete with grooves for the cam bands since I use the built in
sta.

Just out of curiosity pug how did you do the slots for the cam straps.Did you mold it that way or cut out the slots after you molded it.By the way nice work.It looks great!!

Im still working out my trim as i seem to be feet heavy still which i think is due to all the weight on my belt.Unfortunately i cant seem to drop any more weight or i cant hold a 15' safety stop with no air in my drysuit or wing.Hopefully moving that weight up will help out a lot and get my tank back down a little lower so i stop smacking my head on the valve :D

Try a keel weight. The channel weight is IMO better. I haven't made any channel weights yet because I don't dive a single tank very often but when I do I thread a couple hard weight onto the upper cam band. I place one on each side of the tank and snug them up as close as I can get them to the plate.

http://www.omsdive.com/bc_access.html - see BCACB Cylinder Ballast. They hold about 5# of lead shot and, although we haven't tried them with singles, I think they would work like a soft channel weight.

My eBay Halcyon BackPlate arrived today.

I'm in GA all of next week for a series of meetings - so I ordered the Fundamentals book for reading while I'm in the metropolis of Norcross. It should show up at the hotel on Monday.

I started counting the costs last night - I use the AirSource on my current BC rig - so I'll need another real reg for a back up. I'll still use my brain-rotting DataTrans during this BP&W testing phase. I need to get a wing, a harness and maybe an STA (depending on the wing...) This test is adding up pretty quickly. I need to go sell more stuff.

It'll be interesting to contrast my BlackDiamond (which I hate...I'm going back to the Balance ASAP) and the BP&W set up.

I'm starting to get fired up about this.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. I can't wait to get some more knowledge from the book, and then (gasp) sign up for a DIRF class so I can learn how to set this thing up and fit it to my fat bod and not kill myself.

Anyway - my public humiliation continues. More soon.

Even though it's somewhat more expensive, I would suggest you get the Halcyon harness kit. It has everything you need (except a right hip D ring) and makes for lots less hassle. I can't remember if the kit includes the crotch strap, but they have those ready made also.

I went the "pick and gather" route for my second bp and wish I'd just gotten the kit.

Good luck, you'll have fun.

I was reading a thread that recommended the 36# Pioneer for my HP Steel 100.

I dive exclusively single tank in OW (an ocasional wreck...no deep penetration, cave, etc.) and about 50% of the time I use my HP 100 Steel cylindar, and the other 50% I use the thrashed Al 80's the boats out here provide.

I dive dry, with about 20# of lead with my Steel and current BC, and about #24 - 26 with the Al80 rentals.

Your thoughts on the 36# v 27# wing?

Thanks!

My Pioneer is 36 lb and I use that with single steel 80 and drysuit. I would not go the 27 lb route for coldwater. Besides, there is very little difference between the two so you are not taking a hit for the higher capacity.
I also use a weighted STA so that leaves 10# on my belt.

Of course, a plate alone doesn't mean much - but it is clearly a sign that the assimilation has begun (actually it probably begun with putting the long hose on my reg, or maybe Scubaroo's spring straps on my Atomic Fins) Maybe, better: the assimilation continues... ??!!
The DIR nanite laced spring straps strike again :D
