We slept on the boat last night... no... take that back... we listened to seagulls fight on the roof of the covered moorage last night.

At 5 am the gulls finally shut up when an horrendous downpour drowned them out.

The noise it made on the tin roof was much louder than the gulls but by 6 am it had stopped raining. Good thing too... it would have been a soggy home coming had it kept up.

At 7 am while the cook made lattes I backed Arwetheryet out of her slip. We were one of the first few boats stirring but eventually the fleet swelled to a large floatilla waiting in Port Gardner Bay to welcome the Abraham Lincoln home to Naval Station Everett.

An estimated 10,000 folks lined the piers to welcome home the ship that had been missing from the Everett waterfront for 10 months.

Here is a picture of the Lincoln rounding Mukilteo.

I wish I could have been there to welcome everyone home...

Airwings flying formation in salute & sailors lining the flight deck the Lincoln slowly makes her way home with a large Foss tug attached to the stern to slow and turn her as she arrives and a smaller one nudging the bow.

I'll bet there wasn't a dry eye on that dock. 10 months is a LONG time!

Welcome Home to the Crew of the Abe!

Great Pictures, UP

I am so jealous, I had to work today, so I had to be satisfied with listening to the reports on the radio. It just wasn't the same as being able to be there, though.

I am glad that you were able to be out there and take these great shots. Definitely something to remember for many years to come.

I would like to say Congratulations to the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln for the great job that they did over the last 9 1/2 to 10 months.

Pug, in that last picture...in the foreground just to the left of the Lincoln, is a small boat. I know sizes are very subjective in these photos but it looks like a submarine...is it?

That is a Kayak.

A lot of people here in the Northwest use these to "cruise" around the San Juan Islands. That one looks like a single person. They also make double Kayaks, so two people can share the fun of tipping over.

They come in different styles for different uses. There is the heavy duty ones for ocean or open water use and they are also made for running river rapids with.

I've heard they are a lot of fun, but I will stay with my 19' Bayliner, thank you very much.

I never EVEN thought about a kayak! Makes perfect sense and fits size-wise too.

But shut one eye....see that hatch cover open at the top (someone's head probably!) and the overall shape...it could be a submarine.....couldn't it? Huh? :eek:ut:
