I have successfully dived with my Suunto Vyper computer for several years without any problems. But recently I discovered that the depth sensor was off. The computer was displaying a depth that was as much as 15 feet shallower than the actual depth! The problem was hard to pick up because the error was depth dependant. So at 10 feet the computer was reading 9 feet but at 125 feet the computer was reading 110 feet. Fortunately I was familar with the dive site, realized the error and didn't have any deco problems. On later dives I checked the computer against a different unit and confirmed my suspician.

I took the broken computer to a dealer who sent it back to the manufacturer. The dealer didn't seem to think it was a big deal.

I think it was a very big deal and consider myself fortunate for not unkowningly putting myself into deco. I now dive with two computers. Has anyone else heard of this problem ?

This problem can be caused by salt crystals caking in/on the pressure sensor housing. The computer isn't necessarily broken. It's a fairly common problem with Cobras, probably because people don't rinse them well enough. This is first time I've heard of it on a Vyper but I'm not surprised.
