It is about 2.5 hours from Dallas to the Blue Lagoon if you want to come down to it although I think Athens is a better spot. Just let us know so we can plan to be up there.

Vettster, I will try to get with you soon about doing some diving around Houston.

I'm just a wee bit late in posting my thanks to all of the Swampsters that made it out (they changed my apt's T1 host and forgot to tell me what changes to make on my 'puter).

But I had a great time meeting everyone and hanging out with Mitch, Frank, Patty, and you others.

Some interesting photos to come as soon as I get them developed.

Thanks to all who helped make this dive outting successful. We look forward to doing it again real soon.

You in southern TX, Frank? And if so, have you tried lake Houston or any other fresh water holes around there. Reason I ask is I'm down here during the week and want to do some afternoons/evenings within driving time of north Houston....

Lake Houston is just a bit too snakey for me! The center of the lake is very low vis with nothing much to see. When you get along the edges and into the slough's, the Cottonmouths start getting pretty thick. The few alligators you'll come across a shy and all you'll see is their butts! But we've seen snapping turtles the size of #3 washtubs so take your pick...snappers or snakes.

We did 2 recovery dives in Lake Houston...you know, that "getting paid for having fun" thing? Well, we found our boat motor but it definitely wasn't fun.

From north Houston, you could be in Huntsville in about 90 minutes and go to Blue Lagoon.

Scubatexastony,
I can usually get away to dive any weekend. During the week it's just too hectic around here.
Lake Houston sounds just a little bit too much for now. Especially after reading Dee's report and the rain we have been having lately.
I went up to Blue Lagoon last Saturday. It was pretty good with the exception of the visibility. (about 18")
Was planning on going to Clear Springs this coming Saturday.
Dee,
Thanks for the report. I will take your advice.
P.S.: The only part an alligator would see of me is my butt running the other direction.
Mike,
Gonna try and make it this weekend. Sounds like a very good cause.

Hey Frank,
Yeah, after Dee's description of Lake Houston,(sounds like Wright Patman,Texarkana; cept' the gars replace the gators).
Sure looking at making it to Clear Lake this weekend, will be nice putting some faces with all of the posts I've been reading. Hope to see you there.
Tony

My trip to the Flower Gardens last weekend got cancelled because of 5-7' waves. The good folks at my LDS were able to get me on board this coming weekend with another group. (THANK YOU Lori & Bruce!!) We're going for 4 days instead of 3, which is cool. Plus the coral is supposed to be spawning! Never heard of that before now, but appearantly there's supposed to be purplish bubble-like doodads (my marine biology is kinda weak) floating up out of the reefs. The latest buoy reading is 1.6' waves so I'm hyped. Buoy #42002

If this one cancels, I'll see y'all at Clear Springs.

Just so as you understand thats clear springs near Terrell, not Clear Lake near Houston. I'd have a hard time imagining diving clear lake any way.... too polluted for me.

D2D folks now tell me the Flower Gardens are around Buoy 42019. The waves are 2.6' there, an extra foot tall. I'm still holding out hope. If they stay below 4', we're going.

I'd appreciate it if any of y'all that have been there can pinpoint which buoy I need to watch.

Thanx
