Hey there, This coming January-April I'm hoping to be backpacking SE Asia and Nepal (If border restrictions are lifted). And am debating if I should bring my personal set of dive gear. Is there a lot of Shore diving in thailand that we can take part in if we were to rent some tanks? And is the quality of that diving comparable to boat diving in the area?

In Thailand the best diving is in the Andaman Sea, where there are some but limited shoredive options.

If diving is a major part of your trip I would recommend bringing your own gear, otherwise I would just rent.

I do not think I would enjoy to carry extra 10kg of dead weight on my back while trying to negotiate a high pass of 5000m in Nepal.
