I will be in Thailand in early Feb, and want to do a liveaboard trip for approx 5 days to the Similans and Richelieu Rock. My priorities are quality and friendly staff, especially DMs, air conditioning, and especially an environment which is condusive to meeting new like minded people - ie. I dont want a boat full of couples!! Oh and I want great food too!! Value for money is also an important consideration - I dont want 5 star prices!!

I know Im leaving it to the last minute, but better late than never!!

So if anyone has any recommendations, that would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance!

Some boats cater more to couples, others to basically everybody. Of course you can check before you make a booking who else will be on the boat.
February is still possible, but the choice is getting limited, lots of prebookings this year, but we could still find you something.

There are a group of us about 8 and only one couple going on The Panunee (one of the top 5 boats in Thailand) Feb 17.

Members of our club have been offered an outstanding deal.

There are still places available.

Try kingfisher divers, their boat has a mix of accom with 2 double cabins and bunks for 8 more people. They have very friendly staff who are extremely knowledgeabe of the dive sites.

The Food on Kingfisher is very good , though the airconditioning sucks.

In the three liveaboards I have done on the Kingfisher I never spent a night in the cabins because it was way too humid.

Though it is very nice to sleep under the stars.

Cheers

The best food I had so far on a liveaboard is on Aqua One.
The type of divers on each trip will be varied so you will need to check
with the dive operators. However for your other criteria, Aqua One should be fine, except that it is a 5 star boat with 5 star price. Panunee is a little cheaper but also with similar facility. Other friends have been happy with Viking of the Orient as well. Tried one of the cheaper boat once and their aircon broke down the first night and we had no aircon the rest of the trip.
Don't believe internet price, you should be able to make a deal with most dive operators, discount is a magic word over here.
