My wife and I are planning a vacation to Thailand in mid-June. Any recommendations as to where we should go--or where we should avoid--as far as diving is concerned?

I'm diving and she is not, so it should be a fairly interesting place with respect to non-diving activities, i.e., spa, cooking classes, beach, etc.

We were initially thinking of Phuket, but I'm less certain of the diving there in June. Might the gulf be better?

(Right now we're just scheduled to arrive and depart from Bangkok and the rest is still up in the air.)

Thanks in advance!

++ Peter

try phi phi island i went there 2 years ago it superb has diving close by and plenty of shopping etc for your wife

Hi Peter,

The weather in the Gulf Area is normally better than the weather on the Andaman Coast in June. This means that most people prefer to go to the Gulf in this time of year. personally though, I think the diving in Phuket, Phi Phi etc. is much better than the diving in the Gulf, and prefer it even in low season over that of the Gulf.

Hi Peter,

I agree with stevenl,The weather in the Gulf Area is normally better than the weather on the Andaman Coast in June. I was there last year and had a greet time however there is not a lot of stuff for a non diver during the day. After 2-3 days it is all the same

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking that we'll probably do Phuket as there's more for my wife to do there and I can handle the excursions to the outlying islands. (Also there's at least one hyperbaric chamber on Phuket, not sure about Phi Phi.)

We don't have lots of extra time to get to the more exotic locals either. (By the time we would get there, it would be nearly time to return!)

As far as SamS's comment on each day becoming like the last, ahh, I look forward to that! Something a little less hectic is just the medicine that we need. (Doing this trip on frequent flyer miles, that we're accumulating wa-a-ay to quickly!)

Hello,
Here in June? The gulf side is much calmer and SHOULD have better weather by then,
Have you thought of Koh Tao Good diving lots of reef sharks at chumporn pinnicle possible whale sharks.and over 30 sites to choose from the other good thing that no sites are further than 1hr away,trips last half a day so wife is happy theres plenty of other options for non divers Spas, water sports, or relaxing on relativly empty beaches. att link will show you the island. www.kohtao-online.com

cheers

Koh tao's good if you're a diver, if your with someone who doesnt dive they will be bored off their nuts in a couple of days, good clubs and bars though so can keep yourself entertained during the evenings but if you're not on the boats in the day you'll find little to do on land!
