I'm stopping in Thailand for 2 weeks in July on the way to Guam and Australia. I've heard this is the monsoon season in Thailand. Does it really rain that much?

So where are the best areas to dive in Thailand? I have done a little google-ing, and it seems Similan is the most popular area. During my stay, I'd like to do a 2-3 day liveaboard and maybe a day trip or two in another region (the gulf? any recomendations?).

Any recomendations for live-aboards? I'm looking for budget to moderate. In Australia, I saved a lot because I booked when I got there, and not ahead of time...Is it like that in Thailand too? Do they have standby rates?

Any other helpful info would greatly be appreciated =)

You'll generally find that is "out of season" - certainly for Similians Live Aboards. I am sure there will be some diving somewhere in Thailand though...

Sunnier in the Gulf, not much chance for Similans, unless weather is good. Very few trips planned and those with a pinch of salt. Some good day trips around Phuket and Phi Phi all year. July last year was really nice most of the time. Hope it's nice this year too as my family is over
