there is also medina and canyon on the way up to travis which would make for a couple decent dives. Vis is gonna be at least 3" maybe even 20'. But if I were in corpus, I'd be hitting the rigs before I spent the same amount of money on a trip to a lake in central Texas.

The big problem with diving the rigs/offshore is that weather can be a big problem. The number of days that weather is nice enough and the viz is good is very limited. Besides a few days here and there you are pretty much limited to July-Oct as long as there aren't any hurricanes.
 
How close are you to Amistad? That one might be worth the trip. I haven't dove it before, but a few of us are getting together to plan a little recon trip soon.
