So module 4 in the PADI open water course indicates that all divers should have immunizations for tetanus and typhoid. I asked my doc and he popped me on the spot for tetanus, but looked at me funny when I mentioned typhoid. Is this reasonable? What exposure is there to [-]typhus [/-]typhoid when diving? (New diver here.)

Typhus and typhoid are two different diseases, and neither is prevalent in the US. I would not advise a diver here to get typhoid immunization. This may be different for some more third-world diving destinations. (Wherever raw sewage is dumped into the water, typhoid is worth thinking about.)

Well, you can see the discussion in theat linked thread. I think I will get the 5 year shot, not the one only good for 2. If you don't leave the US, you don't need the typhoid, but many divers do - and some places are wilder than others.
