Hey all, I just found out I am going to Knoxville for 2 weeks for a class at UT. Is there any diving in that local area? I looked at a map and saw a river, but nothing that I would immediately recognize as a dive spot (since I am a NW Fla, coastal warm water weenie). I guess I just have to suck it up and start cold water diving.

Any helpful info would be great! (That means you Jimi!):D

there are some folks that dive in the Tenn river in Knoxville (and other area's) but not that many.... I'll let others comment on that.

but there are two quarries outside of Knoxville. One is Low Loch Minn LOCHLOWMINN MAIN PAGE

The other is Philadelpia Quarry Dive into the Philadelphia Quarry

not sure when you're going, but they'll typically be cold year round at depth. During the summer months quarries will have a warm surface temp and 1 or 2 (or 3) thermoclines the deeper you go.

most quarriy dive centers don't operate a full schedule during the winter. so call before you go and make sure they are open.
