I'm going to Bonaire in 2 weeks and just discovered that my cell phone service (ATT) doesn't have international service there.
What is the best way to "call home" to California from Bonaire?

Either go see Micheal at "Chat and Browse" and get a rental prepaid cell phone from him or if you are taking a laptop and staying at a place that has highspeed internet, sign up for Skype. http://www.chatnbrowse.com/

If you have not been to Bonaire before Micheal is a great guy to know and a great source of island info.

Welcome to the board.

You may also want to consider downloading "Skype" if you are bringing a laptop and will have internet access. A lot of people sign up with the access at Michael's and then use a headset and call back to the states with skype. It is free to download and costs 2 cents a minute to call back to the states from Bonaire.

We love it! Liz

What I did whilst in Bonaire in 2006 is to bring an unlocked 900/1800 GSM phone (you can buy them cheaply second hand) and buy a local Telbo or Digicel prepaid GSM SIM card - that way you can call who you want and when you want and they can call you anytime.
For me it worked out fairly ok, boought a $50 card and had funds left over after the week.
