When I got certified I told the instructor I wanted to do deep wrecks. That was my goal. So we looked at a "special order" BCD. I purchased it only to find it was bulky to take while flying and it would not do what I needed for "Tek". I now dive a BP/W and I cannot see myself ever going back to a Rec BCD. Since my cave class I found that the streamlining of the gear would also be perfect for warm water rec dives. If an OW diver needs to laugh at me while I dive my 7' hose, so be it. But I dive to survive!

I only have one sort of rig: BP/W's and dive it all the time, regardless of what people think, or where I dive. I feel comfortable with my gear and know it intimately. Yes I could by a jacket BC to do OW rec dives.... but why? Because 'everyone else uses it?'...Let then laugh, comment etc.....as long as you are safe, dont brag/be pretentious and talk others down.... who cares?

That's such a wimpy profile for Cayman, even for a 2nd dive. Sometimes I use a spool instead of the reel. I have my DSMB in a pouch bolted onto my backplate. But it won't work without a spool or reel. My favorite reel is the Dive Rite Deco reel with 150 feet of line:

I don't usually unbolt the pouch or remove the DSMB. So yes, I usually have the reel or spool on every dive. If you are used to diving a certain way, why change it?

The real downside of all the stuff is figuring out how to fly with 6 regulators 4 wings and the associated equipment (for 2 people).

I would seriously consider tying the boltsnap on with cave line. It looks in the photo like it's a metal to metal connection -- what if the reel is clipped off to you and gets jammed. Can you cut it free the way you have it rigged right now?

Also, the Halcyon/Salvo reels seem harder to jam due to their design...

If memory serves, it connected with a ziptie. No metal to metal connections. I like this reel because it is very unlikely to jam. I have jammed other reels. I am very good at jamming reels.

I never clip a reel off to me when it is in use. I have 2 cutting tools; my TDI instructor was very strict and went over our gear.

Well, the photo you posted definitely looks like a metal to metal connection -- maybe you rig it differently.

And I didn't mean to suggest clipping off the reel when you are laying line. Obviously in that case, you'd have it in your hand. I meant if you were not using the reel (say using a buddies) and yours was clipped off somewhere.
