.....We were a bunch of "normal" divers on air,in the boat with us there were these two tekkies diving in trimix, bottles everywhere, wearing dry suits all the way to the site in the sicilian summer. Our maximun depth 52mt.,18min deco.Their maximun depth 58mt.,they stayed down less than 10 min.longer than us and when we were approaching the first deco stop they were already there decompressing. All that stuff, all that money(trimix is expensive) just for less than 10 minutes?.....

Lte me add a swing to this...........without knowing the exact dive plan of any diver, who are we to judge let alone assume?

In quote above, it is assumed the divers had the same objective.............maybe they were doing a training dive for a much more challenging dive? On the other hand, if they were just 'looking at the wreck and that was teir objective.........who are we to judge? If they feel fine doing all this stuff, then let them. There are many ways to do a dive, for me the bottom line is: two went down, two came up and no pop corn made......

So what if a diver has 'techie gear', a 400ft reel, 12 spools, 5 smb's, GPS locator etc, etc......... are they in your way or in any way hindering your dive? (this is not directed at anyone specific, just purging 2 BAR)

I apologise. I know that I have upset a few of you with my observations. They just come with experience. With only a couple of hundred dives under your belts, you are still learning to dive - however good you think you are.
Hell, I am still learning.
Truly, I dont care what equipment someone wears, carries and uses. You are the ones who have to carry it around. And you are the ones who give us pros so much entertainment, both above and below the waves.
True, if doing deco you need redundancy - twins etc. But for rec diving - whatever, do what you want. You can go deep without doing deco. Apart from wrecks, there really isnt much to see down there - I have been far deeper than any divable wreck, I know.
As to being a "european diver", I never said I was. But if I was, so what? It is still diving, and the same rules apply.

Oh, and Stas. Please contain your excitement. There is no need to be abusive. Save your energy for continuing to learn the art of diving.
Maybe you will shed a few pounds of unused equipment.

Hey James,

No offense taken by me, but I can see where some would be offended at the being told they are blowing hot air.

Could you answer the questions I posted in response to your statements?

Hey Herb,

As a "pro," do you laugh at divers in BP/Ws? Maybe if James were diving in 10 ft of viz and a ripping current, he would appreciate the reel.

I tend to laugh more at "professionals" that should know better, but don't.

Beppe:
As for the BC,well it just crossed my mind looking at those tek ones...just the harness and nothing else to wrap your chest, that's what appealled to me.I like to be as free as possible in the water. As I said "the lesser the better".

I like the less is better idea also. That's exactly why I dive my "Tekie" BP/W. I don't dive doubles. I don't have a can light. I don't carry reels (although I can see the need for a small spool). All I carry is a safty sausage for ocean diving. When I go on a dive vacation, I want to haul around the least amount a gear possible. I do have an adjustable harness, just for the comfort factor. I also think the transpac by dive rite would fit your idea of a good BC. It has a soft backpack rather than a SS Backplate. But the concept is similar.

When you get right down to it, buy what you want. Ask your LDS, ask here, ask your friends, try as many differant ones that you can, then buy the one you like best. Besides, who knows what we'll be diving in 10 years. Instead of BP/W vrs Jackets, we may be fighting about artificial gills vrs implants.

If you are going for a dive at around 40'/50' in the very calm waters of Grand Cayman with 100+ ft viz would you take that reel with you? If so why?

God!,and I only asked about BCs

Yes, I've seen something like that, not bad eh?

No doubt about that,but....this is a forum.
Also no doubt I'd feel safer diving with James!
