You wont go wrong with the petral. I have a predator and 2 petrels. The predator I had first (loved it from day one) and was a bit hesitant about the petrel thinking it was a downgraded predator. I was wrong it is everythig and more in my opnion and diving use. When you arent teching it, change to rec mode and you have a cut back (No He) version with all the niceties of the tech mode. 3 gasses 3 levels of conservative. and a great display. All this on top of it being silent, forgiving and will not shut down on you. Teching it tomarrow, then switch back and you havnt lost a thing.

In regards to you gong tech, don't do it because your buddy wants you to. Pushing someone into AOW is one thing, Tech is not someting you take on in a patronizing manor. Its not difficult or as forgiving.

Good luck with your decision.

Thank you for the words of caution. I will admit, i was a little aggressive on my dives and certifications early on. Lucky I had an instructor take me and 2 others to Hudson Grotto, north or Tampa, Florida. Lets just say, the it was a very humbling experience. I had done zero visibility before, but that place was insane, and I found a new level of respect.

I am going to take my time moving into the tech area. Over the last year, I have purchased 5 atomic Regs and 3 Zeagle BCs to outfit myself and children. On a teachers salary, that's a kick in the butt.

I am just a long term planner, and wanted to get my mind around what I am going to get into. Scubaboard members and vendor people like RonR, really make the dive experience better.

Thank you all. Peace out on this String.
