I am going on a trip to a warm water, clear viz destination this week. A typical "resort" to put it plain.

I am looking forward to it.

After reading this forum for awhile I have an honest question:

What should I bring?

What would a diver that owns every piece of crap imaginable think to bring on a simple warm water dive trip?

Halcyon's trim weight pouches are designed specifically for AL 80 usage...

You guys left out the snorkel!!!!

He'll die without the snorkel!!

If you are at a resort that has shore diving and shallow reef areas, then do bring a snorkel. You can have a lot of fun in only 10 feet or less between dives or early in the morning (dawn) and at that depth a snorkel may be a better option then tanks. I remember watching a small crab molt over 15 minutes in about 20 inches of water, just wish I had had my camera.

Resort snorkeling is also great if you have a non-diving companion and or kids.

I also put one in the bag incase I end up at a place where it is a required piece of equipment.

Back to being serious, for warm water diving on OC I use either a DSS Kydex backplate or Ali, and an 18# wing, reg setup, your choice as to wether you want to use a long hose or not. Finger spool and an SMB. I normally bring a spare set of regs and a timer or PDC. If your regs are din bring a yoke adapter. If you plan on doing night dives I normally use a good quality LED backup light so as not to wake everything up in sight.

I like to always bring everything except tanks. I've seen resort gear, and I'll pass on that, thank you. I know my gear, I'm used to it, and in even the most benign conditions it can hit the fan, and if it does I want my gear muscle memory to be second nature. Do a search and you'll read plenty of horror stories about resort rental gear.

On my last trip (San Diego in Feb) due to the cost of airline baggage, I shipped my gear both ways (stuffed clothes between the gear). It was great! It cost less, no bags to check-in at the airport, and my gear was delivered to my door both ways.

My gear without tanks weighed 150#s, and that was without a snokel.

Snorkel is a really good idea, for snorkelling between dives.

A hood + undervest type things, in case it ends up colder than you think with the repetitive diving.

Check if your regs match what tanks they have (DIN/Yoke). Check what tanks they have and figure out what your weight will be.

DSMB

As much of your own gear as you can fit in case they don't have great rental gear.

Take it ALL! Gear envy will have everyone jealous. :D
Seriously though, good info already given; just what you will be comfortable with, need, and can pack. Tech gear should be "good enough" for rec dives.

Bring a lot of extra yoke o rings, I always seem to be replacing them.
