i have read that these old silicone mask straps should be replaced with a more durable material.

What have you done to your mask?

Andy

i just changed my fin straps to the halcyon spring heels, i wan to eliminate the mask strap issue.

I use the "slap strap" type setup.

Slap Straps are made of neoprene with velcro adjustable straps, so they are soft, don't pull your hair, and the bouyancy of the neoprene make most masks neutral. You'll see them in post every dive shop and resort with their name on them or you can find the blank ones.

Slap covers are the neoprene pocket that fits over your existing mask strap.

Thanks for the pointer, Dee. I was sure they had to have a site but I couldn't find it.

Trivia: The founder of Innovative Scuba was my DM instructor back in the 80s. The company is located right in the hotbed of the diving world: Colorado Springs :) [not!]

Yup, slap straps are the ONLY way to go! I have used the full neoprene and Velcro version, AND, the slap strao cover that slips OVER your existing silicone strap that came with your mask - and I like the slap strap cover the best.
