I'm a Fish!
Just wondering, does anyone know of dive operators or sites that actually care if you hold a card for the type of diving that we do?

From my experiance(never been through an atual TECH course) nobody seems to care as long as you know what you are doing. I've been diving deep wrecks and caves for many years, and have never had to show a card to the scuba police to do it. I'm not sure if its just common practice across the board, or if its just because these cats have known me for years.

Thoughts?

As long as you know what you're doing, I don't care.

If you're wrong, the body recovery team might get upset about missing dinner.

Most of the cave sites I go to require you to have a cert card. Some have check in procedures (Jackson County Sheriffs office for JB) or park attendants (Peacock Springs).

I've been asked to show mix cards when requesting trimix fills and I've been asked for cert cards when filling out waivers for deeper wrecks.

In places that are familiar with me, I don't show cards every time, but if I haven't been somewhere in a while, or there for the first time I almost always have to show certification.

Have been asked on liveaboard and other ops where they'll be providing gas fills of >40%, doing planned deco diving, etc.

I've been asked to show certifications on 'tech-only' charters in San Diego.

I've been asked by Blackbeard in Fl, I've been asked in Egypt, I've been asked by the Aggressor in Galapagos, I have to put my C# on any sign in I've been on in the S. CA area. I have to show my Nitrox cert to get Nitrox fills except in the shop where I earned the certification.

In Cave we have to leave the c-cards on the dash of the truck. In Mexico we had to show them at the resort to go cave diving.

Yeah, thats about what i thought.....some do, some dont.

James, you've got jokes. 1 Point for you!

I haven't been asked for cards for trimix fills, but to some extent, I think either the shop owners have known me or they have known the people with whom I was diving. I have never walked in off the street as an unknown to get helium.

The only place anybody has ever asked for a cave card is in Florida. Speaking of which, I need to get back to my fruitless effort to GET my Full Cave card (from last November . . . )
