It depends on where on the globe you are diving. There is a strong correlation between recent diving accidents, number of lawyers and the diligence of the scuba police.

My experience varies. In Europe I was never asked for tec diving cards (now that I think of it, I wasn't asked for any cards at all....). I am going to Truk in January and I was warned if I want to do tec diving off the Odyssey I'll need to bring the necessary cards.

Peacock checked all three divers in my team today.

I don't think that I have ever shown my Nitrox cert card locally. A couple of times down south. Off the top of my head, I can think of 7 Local and semi-local shops who have given me Nitrox fills, without producing a card. A lot of it is how the person at the shop perceives you. When you show up with tanks that have o2 clean stickers, they assume you know what you are doing.

This past winter, I was at a resort in Roatan. One of the divers on my boat told me he just got certified (OW), but had been diving at that resort for 10+ years already!

The only place anybody has ever asked for a cave card is in Florida. Speaking of which, I need to get back to my fruitless effort to GET my Full Cave card (from last November . . . )

You like these "fruitless" efforts huh?

(ps I don't actually think its fruitless, but I do think you should take a step back and see if this instruction/card actually supports anything you want to be or should be doing in a cave).
