hey everyone
hopefully this is the best place to ask this
i am travelling to playa del carmen in april and am trying to locate anyone certified to run the TDI/HOG regulator repair course. if anybody has info on a shop or instructor that may be able to offer this, pls let me know here, or in a PM
i did locate one shop with an instructor who is qualified to do it but they wanted $300u.s. for the one day course.
i also was given one name of an instructor who might be able to do it. found him on FB and sent a PM but have had no reply

any help appreciated
thx

Know that the course is supposed to be two days and cover the entire line. 1st stages, 2nd stages, wings, lights, etc. I know and have heard some complaints about instructors only covering the D1 and the second stage. It is not supposed to be done that way. Just as an aside I charge 275 if you come to me for the two day course. 2nd day includes half spent at the pool checking and using your gear.

Should add that it can be done in one IF everyone is on their toes, well prepped, and willing to put in an intense 10 - 12 hour day.

you certainly would know better than i jim.....every shop i have looked into so far in the u.s. though (and that isn't very many cuz i have a hard time finding any) offers it in one day for usually around $150. there has never been a mention of other equipment except for the regs. i find your input very interesting for sure

I had a long discussion with Chris before he left and when the course first came out. At that time there was the D1 and the classic second. It was still supposed to cover the wings, lights, dry suits, etc. Even though the light portion was and still is much about care and maintenance rather than rebuilding them. As new products came out they were to be added by the instructors. I have since spoken to Jack at length about this , and will have a face to face in march at beneath the sea, but nothing had changed. The title of the course is the HOG Equipment Specialty course. Not the HOG regulator course. Granted it does not take long to cover rebuilding the inflators, but that is exactly why they should be done. There is also the pre hands on discussion that is supposed to take place as part of the classroom. Review of gas laws, oxygen concerns, etc. Depending on the student you can spend a little or a lot of time on that. But some time is supposed to be spent on those items.

Just showing how to tear down and rebuild a reg is not what the course is supposed to be. That is like most mfg clinics. This was and is intended to be better.
