Jen and I joined the CIDA charter yesterday out to Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. First dive was off Anacapa on the TBF Avenger, a WWII torpedo bomber that presumably sank in 1945 after a mid-air collision during a training exercise. Took me about 10(!) minutes to clear my ears (something with which I never have issues; I wasn't congested, either), but eventually we descended. Wreck wasn't in sight, so we tied in to the shot line and scootered around for a few minutes until we ran into her. Had the wreck to ourselves for our entire bottom time which was pretty nice. Easy ascent into water FILLED with various pelagic tunicates and salps. Some video:

Second dive was supposed to be on the Spirit of America off Santa Cruz, but the shot wasn't dropped anywhere near it (at least we failed to find it with scooters and a 400' reel...), so this dive was a wash for us.

Third dive was off a really nice Santa Cruz pinnacle reef (Picket Fences?). Great color, great life. Sadly, no video.

Fun day and a great shake down for some more challenging dives I have next weekend.

Thanks! Despite some (well, numerous) irksome moments (most self-caused), we did have a lot of fun.
