Went out Thursday and Friday to survey (FWC benthic monitoring) the natural ledges off Tarpon Springs. Vis was really good 30+ both days, bottom temp was 75, calm seas, and the ledges are looking better. Nice to see the young corals, sponges, motile inverts, macro algae and of course, the fish (hogs, snappers, juvenile groupers, blennies, etc.).

The Tarpon Springs area is a really nice area for diving - we see more invertebrate species compared to the Indian Rocks sites, which is likely due to the ledge areas. At some point, I'd personally like to check out the artificial reefs just to see if there are any comparisons.

Good diving!

Oceandvr,

Can you give me a wee bit more info about the T/S area and it's diving?

I love the Tarpon Springs area!!!

Many years ago I was on a road trip with my backpacking tent, Coleman stove and whitewater kayak stowed about my VW Beetle.

As I pulled into T/S there was a Greek wedding going on.

Being a rather carefree sort at the time, I just pulled over and joined in.

Had one helluva good time that afternoon, night and most of the next morning !!!

Oh, yeah . . . about the diving ? ? ? :D

Tarpon Springs is a cool little town. My diving in TS is limited to 3 natural ledge sites that are about 10-18 miles out. They're pretty cool sites. You may want to check out the local dive shop, Narcosis, for more info and trips.
