Ontario Diver:Nope. You'll find out if there is a slow leak easily enough, by watching the pressure drop or hearing the hiss. The gas stove is checked because it is a feed line and produces a gas that could kill you.
yknot:The problem with a scuba tank is that you find out about the leaking tank, after paying for a VIP and fill, when you hook your reg up at the quarry and find you only have 800PSI. I can tell you from experience that tank leaks aren't necessarily audible and may take a couple of days to bleed down. Gas stoves are also checked with soapy water because that method absolutely works.
