is there an age restriction on tanks? My dad has some aluminum 80's from the 1980's and I thought about getting them inspected and hydro tested.

Read the post at the top of this forum about "bad alloy" tanks. If you find that the tanks are not from that alloy, you will have to find a shop that fills them, as some have have a policy of not filling tanks over a certain age regardless.

Good luck

Short answer-
born before 1990 = scrap it

By "scrap it" you mean: "pass it on to a diver who might value reducing unnecessary waste and let them enjoy a few more decades of service if they aren't one of the ones with the suspect alloy... Or is willing to take the precautions to keep them inspected as required?"
