I recieved a phone call today from a gentleman at "The Shuttle". His report to me is totally unofficial at this time. They believe they will be able to start service by the end of the year. One of the hold ups is the terminal at Tampa, as a new one must be built. The ferry itself is NOT the same that Novia Scocia/Yucatan Line used, but twice the size with plans for many activities aboard.They have found thier ship, but not taken possession yet. When asked about cost, he said that has not been decided yet, but we would not see any BIG suprises when comparing fares to the former service. There you have it folks...the latest news as of 10 minutes ago!

are you saying there will be a ferry from florida to Cozumel?
 
The ferry will be from Tampa to Progresso, which means you can take your vehicla and then drive to Cozumel, using the car ferry in Calical near Playa del Carmen.

The reason I put it in the Cozumel forum is that many who live either full or part time have been waiting for this ferry service to start up again.

Ok, there is a Progresso just across the Rio Grande from Wescalo TX. But you're referring to service from Tampa Florida to Progresso QR on the Yucatan peninsula, right? Found this article from 2003...?

Think so. Been searching the net, looks like they had one for a while in 2002 maybe? Wouldn't be for the vacation minded - more for those who have homes on the Yucatan and Coz and want to take their car without driving all the way around the Gulf of Mexico.
