ScubaBride:
I recieved a phone call today from a gentleman at "The Shuttle". His report to me is totally unofficial at this time. They believe they will be able to start service by the end of the year. One of the hold ups is the terminal at Tampa, as a new one must be built. The ferry itself is NOT the same that Novia Scocia/Yucatan Line used, but twice the size with plans for many activities aboard. They have found thier ship, but not taken possession yet. When asked about cost, he said that has not been decided yet, but we would not see any BIG suprises when comparing fares to the former service. There you have it folks...the latest news as of 10 minutes ago!

I had planned on driving a car down to Cozumel this year and leaving it at our house. I just hated giving up five days of vacation as well as the potential problems with roads, hotels, gas and the police. Although I'm trying I have yet to master Spanish.

If the ferry company can work out the details it would certainly be easier to drive to Tampa and then cruise for a day and a half to Merida. Then it would just be long day's drive over to Playa and a ride on the truck ferry.

I feel the sameway. I will be moving down in approx 24 months and do not look forward to hauling a trailer on that kind of a drive. It will be awesome if the ferry is running and so much easier.
