I'm 5'11 and about 150lbs. The problem is most any specs on bcd's always say 5'10 for height in the medium size. I have yet to find a medium tall. Anyone know a good bcd for a tall skinny guy?
Thanks

Well, the JET harness is custom made and reasonably priced (~$359 for harness/backplate/wing). I just ordered one myself. I haven't received it yet, but many folks here think the quality is top-notch as well.

Oh, forgot to mention, I don't fit into the standard run-of-the-mill BC either, so I went this route.

Any modular BC should do.

Option 1:
I recommend either Zeagle or DiveRite. Medium waist pannel, large shoulder harness. Zeagle dealers are suposed to mix and match the BC parts for you, it shouldn't cost extra. Either one has very good quality and like customer service. Depending on your dive locations and other stuff you carry be adviced that bladders around 45lbs. are quite large and bulky.

Option 2:
Backplate and wing, either DIR style or with a quick release harness, with or without integrated weights, your choice. As modular as it gets. The small manufactures like FredT here on the board or Scott Koplin (through Oxycheq) even offer different size steel plates. The single harness obviously adjusts infinitely. And for single tank diving you can get circular bladders, much nicer than horseshoe shaped ones.

cs7, 6'2", used to be 169 lbs. ;)
happy Zeagle Ranger owner
happier DiveRite plate and Oxycheq wing user.

Thanks,
I'll take a look into these.... from what i'm reading bp/wing seems to be becoming more popular.

Even tho I am a new diver, I am very impressed with Jet Backplates. Very reasonably priced, and made custom for you!

Im new, so Im going to ask a stupid question about this setup

this is without wings, right? Are wings required, or for skinny guys like the thread creater and I, are wings optional?

The wing is what you use for bouyancy control I believe.

I thought you used the back inflate bladder for bouyancy control.....
I guess I dont know much about the BP/W setup, but I dont see wings in that picture.

EDIT: There is no back bladder, is there? I think I got it figured out now.

Personally, I would avoid a Jet Harness setup. The harness padding is unnecessary, it's big time expensive, and the appeal for a backplate and wing is it's modularity... if I choose to dive doubles, I just swap out the wing. You can't do that with a Jet Harness.

I've got a regular backplate with 12 feet of plain nylon webbing - and it's ultra-comfy. I know guys who wear a BP/Wing with just a T-shirt, no exposure gear - it's not a problem.

What harness and backplate do you use?
