I'll see if maybe I can squeek out some time to get up there for some diving. I'll also clue in a couple of my buddys and see if they are planning to dive Tahoe around that time and maybe we can all hook up.

That would be good :-) drop me a PM or whatever to let me know if it would be worth bringing my gear.
I just checked your profile,we have the same birthday!

What is the water temperature in Tahoe at the moment? Do you guys normally dive wet or dry?

Cheers

Ian

Just did my altitude cert up there the last weekend in June and the water temp was 55f. I dove dry because I wanted to get my weighting dialed in for fresh water. Plenty of people were diving wet though. It all depends on how well you tolerate cold water. The SAUE is a Dir group so my guess is they will be diving dry.:-)

Edit to post:

Ian,

Here's a web site you can check out for more info on Lake Tahoe diving:

I know people who dive wet in Tahoe, but I personally dive dry. In fact, I dive dry in 70 degree water because I don't like being cold.

Just bought my dry suit last year. I don't get cold when diving wet but when the weather's on the chilly side the dry suit is a lot more comfortable.:-)

Well I dont own a dry suit (yet)so its a case of dive wet or dont dive at all. If I lived in a cold place then a drysuit would be on the top of the shopping list. Just want to make sure that I will survive a couple of dives !

I did a couple of days diving there last week, and the temperature on my computer was consistently showing 64F. There were two of us in dry suits, the rest of the group in wet suits. Needless to say, nobody was cold.

BUT...this is a place to exercise extreme caution. The boaters in Tahoe pay no attention to dive flags. So, you can watch out for boats and avoid them, right? Yes, but while I was on the bottom I noticed a piece of wire lying very straight on the bottom, in the sand. I went over to look, and discovered that wire was moving! A few seconds later I saw a giant lure being dragged through the sand by a boater above me. I didn't even hear the engine, but if that thing had snagged me it could have done some nasty damage to my DUI. And probably to me too. I think I'll pass on Tahoe diving in the future. The traffic up there is miserable anyway!
