hi all zen divers,
we are so inert these day. aren't we?

today i dove my Dolphin at Tago, which is on the west coast of Izu Peninsula. it was unusually warm with the water temp of 21 degrees in C (70F) and lots of sunshine. i dove 5mm wetsuit with a hood and was not cold.

in the morning we had no wind and could see Mt Fuji with snow on top. as the sea was flat, we went outside of Tago Bay. a huge group of TAKABE (Labracoglossa argentiventris) was particularly noticeable. i also saw several ISHIDAI (Oplegnathus fasciatus), which are very tasty if baked with salt! in the afternoon, however, we were cursed with strong west winds and 3 meter high surge.

the weather forecast said it would be much cooler tommorow with possible rain fall. it is likely that, for this year, today is the last day when diving in wetsuit is enjoyable. we are getting into the winter season finally.

Thanks for the report, Ken. Sounds like a gift day of unexpected great conditions. I have never dove at Tago, it sounds like it's near Osezaki? What are the underwater conditions like at Tago? Is it shore or boat diving?

Actually, the water temps don't drop until December. I keep telling everyone that this is the best diving season. Last weekend in Atami, we had 21-22 degrees at depth (30 meters) and 20 degrees on the surface. Will still dive wet until mid December.

Visibility was spectacular, 20-25 meters on Saturday and 15-20 meters on Sunday.

Osezaki is located at the north end of the penninsula on the west coast.

Tago is just south of Arari which is a little south of the middle of the penninsula and north of Kumomi.

I really enjoy diving Tago, great boat diving, spectacular pinnacle like formations.

We'll be planning a weekend trip there in winter, probably in December or January. Let me know the next time you're in town. I have several requests for this site.

hi mar scuba,

i had been away to Sydney to attend a conference and came back this AM, which is why my response get delayed.

yeah, what you keep saying is absolutely right, and the way i described the condition on my diving day was misleading. i should have written like this:

"it was unusually warm with the air temperature of 25 degrees in C and lots of sunshine. i dove 5mm wetsuit with a hood and was not cold because the water temperature at this time of the year was usually warm and was in fact 21 degrees in C. "

ordinarily, in november we still have the water temp above 20, but it's cold on land with KOGARASHI wind. this is why most divers start using drysuits in Izu in november, and on the 8th of november in Tago i was the only one in wetsuit.

next month, i will go down south for diving, running after autumn, so to speak. in Onnason Village in the northern part of Okinawa Main Island, the air temp will be still above 25, and the water one above 22. although it's a pain in my XXXX that i have to ship nitrox tanks, it is certainly worth while to enjoy diving Dolphin there.
