This is not to be construed as legal advice, but under the "works for hire" doctrine, if someone designs a logo and is recompensed (employer / employee relationship) then the employer has full rights to that copyright (actually trademark or trade dress).

Personally, I'd pay up front so that I owned the artwork free and clear and not have to worry about the transactional cost (and headache) of paying points on each shirt sold.

In really bad advice (legal or otherwise), I'd just take the "Blue H" logo and change the damn color!! I won't even post a mock-up for fear that JJ's minions would hunt me down!!

ummm thanks. I won't take your last suggestion, for a variety of reasons. Starting with the fact I don't even like the Halcyon Logo,never have and I have my own.

One more... Single color on white... fast, easy and cheap to print. The mermaid (slightly modified) is from an open source, public domain graphics collection, I am not an artist, I just know how to use Coreldraw.
