Shearwater is pretty good about covering you. They will be able to see when it was made off the serial number and should be more than willing to stand behind their product if defective. I’d say the chances of having a problem with a transmitter in the first year (under warranty) is slim

It's a 2 year warranty I believe although the point is moot given OP is looking elsewhere.
