The explanation was that the original Petral parts stock was lacking (I suspect it's been discontinued as it no longer appears in their site) so they just replaced it.
Ya, I hate that kind of deception.
I mentioned to a 'Murican friend that I think we Canadians get a "preferred" status just by virtue of our residence. Service Depots are at something of a disadvantage when it comes to the old "Oh, he's a good guy, let's just send him a new one...".
Perhaps more telling is that my story really isn't all that unique.
