I've recently purchaed the suunto vytec dive computer with optional transmitter for air pressure. I'm looking to get more into the technical aspect of diving (deeper) and am curious as too how the vytec would handle added tank pressure from doubles. The manual says the gauge will transmit up to 5200psi, but if i chose to dive doubles and say the max psi is near 6000 would the computer work. The manual states that a symbol of ( -- ) will appear over 5220 psi. So am i too assume that diving doubles on this setup with PSI of around 6,000psi, the transmitter would still be working, and after air consumption down to 5220 psi the gauge would start transmitting the exact amount of air.??? Thanks for any replies..

When diving double, the tank pressure does not double, just the amount of air you take. so, if your tanks are rated for 3000psi, that is still what you fill them to doubled up, but you have twice the volume.

OOOOOOOOOOo who feels stupid now.. thanks for the clarification..That clears up alot of things.. Now i'm not worried about purchasing something i can't use. Thanks again for the correct info. kevin :monkeydan

I would be very wary of using the wireless transmitter. Its the worst technology I have seen introduced into diving for some time. They are very unreliable. I'll also add they are completly unsuited for any type of tec diving.

I dove with one, for NS rec dives for about 6 months before just giving up. They loose signals mid dive, give off readings, etc.

I dont know any tec diving instructor, regardles of organization that would allot you to dive with one on a tec dive.

This has not been my experience.

I have found the Vytec transmitter reliable in over 100 dives including a variety of cave, wreck and deep decompression dives that would be considered "tec".

I do use an SPG on my left side first stage as backup, but the transmitter has always performed flawlessly. Obviously it does not give you accurate pressure data when using stage tanks, but neither will anything else.

My only concern with the design is that it might get broken if knocked in an overhead environment. I have mine mounted on a 6" HP hose.

I like the computer and would encourage anyone to buy one.

This post is also totally contrary to my personal experiene with wireless transmission technology...

I have just over 100 dives with an Oceanic VT pro wireless that I got at the end of last summer and it has been flawless in terms of the transmitter. I have never had a signial interrupted while I was wearing the computer, including being buddy for photographers with flash, which was once a source of interference in early models of the technology.

When I have the computer on my wrist and walk away from the rest of my gear during suit-up, the signal is of course lost until I return to the gear. This is the only situation where I lose signal.

Ditto... 50 odd dives with Vytec including wreck penetrations - no loss of signal. Using a camera with Ikelite strobes - no loss of signal.

Guys - You've talked about using a transmitting device that hangs off your first stage in in overhead environment. While swimming through wreck, caves, or any overhead environment - dosn't seem likely that you bump your first stage into something - sooner or later?
Dosn't is seem likely that if you have one of these transmitters screwed into a HP port, that it is quite likely to get broken off if you bump your tank into something?
If your seriously considering putting one of these transmitters on a 1st and going into a wreck, cave, or ANY overhead environment - you need to take a deep evaluation on whether or not your ready. Personally, if you are considering this or doing it, you are heading for a grave mistake.

Tanks get bumped around in caves and wrecks. This transmitter will be the first thing to get broken off. Additionally they are notoriously unreliable - just because you have not lost a signal yet - you will, and at the worst possible time.

Dont just take my word for it, ask around.

BTW - I AM a tech instructor - and I would NOT allow anyone under my influence to to hang anything unnecessary off their 1st stage and go into an overhead environment - especially a computer thats prone and notorious for losing signal.

Just think what intermittant operation will do to your deco plan.
Think of what a catastrophic breakage will do to you dive.

Final advice:
You should not be going into an overhead environment with one of these, and should not use a computer as the primary and only deco management tool.
Think about this.

Personally, my diving is personally recreational, no overhead environments, but like I said, no loss of signal.

Well, in essence that's what we are doing here, asking around. So far, one poster has claimed problems that are in stark contrast with three others.

It would be interesting to see a poll to this effect...

Anyone know how to set up a poll regarding personal experience wth wireless air integrated computers?
