Getting back to one of your original questions, I'm not so sure that you can just pop the wrist mount out of it's boot (like a puck) if you purchased the Vyer within the past few months. I bought a Vyper wrist mount in January and when I tried to pop it out of it's mount to put it in a console I found that the strap was attached to the actual unit itself and that it wasn't just round (puck-like) but contoured to fit the wrist mount. The wrist mount isn't working out for me for various reasons and I find myself in a position to have to purchase a console unit and sell the wrist mount. I just thought that I could pop out the wrist unit and drop it in a console but alas, this doesn't seem to be the case, so going by previous responses, I don't know if I'm missing something or what. If others can weigh in on this I would appreciate it very much.

The band comes off (at the pins) and the computer settles right into the Suunto console boot. If you took the computer out of a new console, it'd have the little "ears" sticking out begging for the watch band and its two attachment pins. (You just don't notice there's a watch band attachment on the computer when the back is hidden in the console.)

The Suunto stock wrist mount isn't a boot. It's just the band. The computer housing *is* a wrist mount -- just one that happens to fit well in a console, too.

At least that's what I know about them.

Good to know! Thanks!

I love my wrist mounted Vyper. I just got the usb cable and interface to dowload dives too, haven't had enough time to evaluate it though. The Vyper is easy to use and I really do love it.
My local DS guy asked me about the new one coming out with the new "deep stop" feature, i read a little about it. sounds nice, the new one is coming out with a virtual compass built in too. i was tempted for just a sec about getting the newer version but only have had mine for about 2 years (about 38 dives) so I'll keep this one for a while yet!

Thanks for the info ClayJar - you may have just saved me a lot of money (and I don't mean on my car insurance)!!!

I have a Cobra and want to swap it out for a wireless AI computer. I am seriously considering the Vyper. The next computer doesn't have to be a Suunto. But, I'm familiar with the Suunto interface and like my Cobra enough to stick with the brand.

That said - I've seen posts by one or two divers who described problems with the Vyper transmitters used by their buddies. I'd like to hear first hand experiences from anyone who has that type of issue.

The Vyper is not wireless. The Vytec is.

Suuntos that have an AI transmitter are the D9 and the Vyec not the Vyper. I use the D9 and never had a transmitter problem. I've seen some recent posts regarding failures but I suspect some users did not know how to use their dive comp :shakehead

Cheers.

Hmmm...yes, I can see how that would cause a weak transmitter signal considering there isn't one! I'm a brand new dad. Blame it on the lack of sleep.

Sorry - I meant the Vytec

CONGRATS!! Bringing new divers into the world.. how altruistic!

I hear the vytec is nice, but I don't care for the wireless stuff.
