I recently picked up an sk7 and dss wrist mount. The sk7 is the console replacement version, not the wrist mount version. From what i understand these are the same unit in different mounts, so it is just a matter of coaxing the compass out of the mount. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the unit out of the mount without damaging it? I figure the shoot-first-ask-questions-later approach will lead me no a ruined compass in this case. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

I've heard warm water soak will make it easier to get it out of the console boot. Yes it's supposed to be the same insert but just a different housing (eg. console vs. wrist boot). That said I haven't done a console one before.

Bert,

It's been a little while since I last removed a SK7 from a console add on piece, but I do recall I didn't have to cut anything. Others have reported that it's much easier to simply cut away the console attachment housing. Becareful if you choose that approach.

The pieces you need to recover are the Liquid filled compass, the bezel and attached friction ring.

You don't want to seperate the bezel (the part that rotates) from the friction ring. IIRC gently prying the friction ring up eventually allows you to remove the friction ring with the bezel attached, and then the liquid filled compass will basically fall out.

Good luck,

Tobin

Thanks for the help guys. Warm water and some coaxing got it all apart. The bezel is very difficult not to pop off... i did pop it off unfortunately, however it snapped back on. I think it will all be fine in the end. Thanks again.
