Just like most new people in here, I would like to get advice as far as which manufacturer is a best choice...
Can any experienced diver reflect on this?
many thanks

I vote for Suunwatec.

Try the search menu just above your post, or just browse the threads in this catagory for a while.

You'll see... everyone likes the Suunwatec.

Depends on what you are going to do. Personally with the problems both have I would go with Oceanic or Genesis.

To do what? What type of diving are you doing. What exactly are you looking for? In terms of manufacturing quality etc., both are fine choices. In terms of what exactly you are looking for...well...that's another question. More information please.

Thanks for the reply.
I have already done what you suggested, and I do appreciate the suunwatec vote.
My question was more referring to how strong and durable a model is and to the reliability of the manufacturer

can you be more specific about those problems?

I dive in Greece and sometimes in the Caribean.
Generally close to deco limits.
I might go into nitrox in the future.
I used to dive with an old Dacor Quantum Loop computer which pessed away last month.

I would like to have a durable computer with a nice PC interface

many thanks

Suunto is a great computer. From what I hear Oceanic is plagued with problems.
Uwatec and Suunto are the 2 most popular ones I'm familier with. I own a Suunto Vyper wrist mount and it looks to me like a very sturdy, well built computer. Very user friendly and has everything one would need. Great display and easy to read underwater. I haven't used it on any night dives yet so I can't comment on the display at night. As stated before what type of diving will you be doing? I chose the Vyper in part because it allows me to dive Nitrox that I'm now certified for. Do your reasearch and make sure the computer has features you may want in the near future, otherwise you'll be buying another one.....

PS...The Suunto has a great pc interface and the free Dive Manager software looks to have everything one would need for recreational diving.

Oceanic or Genesis are simple and priced low. If they are all you can afford, then they are better than nothing. Possibly.

Find a dealer in your area, and see what they have. If they have both Suunto and UWATEC, then play with both and take your pick.

I prefer Suunto. But I back mine up with an UWATEC electronic bottom timer beside it as well. Since they are both designed for fresh water, they both give the same read-outs in terms of depth. That is nice.

Oceanic makes great surf boots for warm water diving. That is the only thing I own with Oceanic printed on it.

I apologize for the wise crack answer. I must have been hungry or something.

But I would still vote for Sunnwatec, because I like the name. (Although I bought a Mares today, since my six year old Cochran went belly up on New Years Day.)
