As I said in reviewing the first version of the software – this is a good dive computer for Air/Nitrox on single tanks or manifold twins for divers. It is not suitable for side mount (independent twins), trimix or CCR and does not claim to be – and it is about half the price of computers that are.
Garmin offers more for less money. The descent 1 can go to 100m depth and is now under 400, and can do trimix and ccr, AND gives you FREE trainingplans with one of the 3 Garmin coaches up to the half marathon and you can import for a full marathon from Garmin.
Also is Garmin connectable with most sportsapps like Runkeeper, Runna, Strava, Kiprun Pacer, but also with Conquerer Challenges and so on.
I haven't seen all these interfaces for Suunto yet.
So the Suunto will work for recreational divers that will not go deeper than 60m. But for a lot of divers and people who like sportwatches, there are in my eyes other options that maybe fit better.
I don't have a Garmin divewatch, but if I had known how much I would use my Instinct 2, I would have bought the Descent G1. Not as main dive computer as I have Shearwater, but for that 50 bucks difference between the Instinct 2 and the G1, yes, then I would had bought the dive version.
I have my Garmin connected with Kiprun, Conquerer, have followed the half marathon plan with Garmin Coach, have tried trainingplans with Trainingpeaks, all things that are completely supported for Garmin, but not all for Suunto.
So if you want to use apps connected with your sportswatch, also check this before you choose between Garmin or Suunto.
