I'm a Fish!
I have a Suunto D9 and it has flooded 2 times. I sent it to the service center in Tampa and they replaced the module, which cost me $600, and it flooded again 6 months later. They are not guaranteeing their work. They are accusing me of loosening it even though I have not touched it since they replaced the module.

Has anybody else had problems with Suunto service in Tampa?

Are D9's just pieces of crap as I starting to suspect?

Thanks for any input.

I wouldn't have paid the 600 after the first flooding, unless they could tell me why it flooded and how they were going to prevent that from happening again...and I believed them.

I don't know if D9's are considered to be garbage, but I know most people consider them HIGHLY overpriced. For what you pay for a D9, you could get two of the best dive computers on the market. You could also get two or three of a few different similarly-capable watch-sized computers for rec diving. A buddy of mine has one, and it hasn't gotten wet in a couple of years. Instead of paying thfor the repair again, I'd just buy a new computer **cough**Petrel**cough**. Whether or not the Suunto D9 is a "piece of crap"....the service from Suunto seems to be. Spend your monies elsewhere.

If it flooded, they should have performed the repair work for free unless you'd opened it up yourself. But because Suunto's attitude on service and support is clearly reflected in the quote in my signature, they're happy to take whatever they can get from you and tell you to pound sand if you don't like it.

+1 for Shearwater. Get a basic Petrel and you'll never need another computer unless you go CCR. Service and support are excellent.

Not only am I out all of the money but Chris from Suunto service in Tampa called me a liar about 10 times. I am going to speak to the owner tomorrow.

I never should have bought it. If you dive a lot like I do, you have to send it away a couple of times of year to change the battery. I'm going back to my reliable $300 computer.

I think the solution would be to have the dive shop you bought the D9 from talk to Aqualung Corporate.

Aqualung / Suunto are VERY good when dealing with dealers.

It'll also be a good test of how your LDS will help you in a time of need. :)

At the same time though, you've kinda already started to burn bridges...

Sounds more like suunto lit the match and brought the gasoline.

All Suunto dive service calls are supposed to be handled by an authorized Aqualung dealer.

For the dealer I work for, with the handful of Suunto warranty claims I've had to do (mostly faulty Geckos being replaced by Zoops, maybe 1-2 SK7 compasses), I've never had a problem with them sending a replacement.

Looks they are going to warranty the repair. I haven't got it back yet but if they do the work, I'll be happy with their service.
