What is the D9's advantage over something like a VR3? Or a HS Explorer?

Digital compass and a wearable watch?:D
I traded mine in for the Uwatec aladin Tec(guage mode of course).
Haven't looked back.

Ok, let's see:
Compass: Suunto SK7 -- $65
Bottom Timer: ~$200
Watch: generic $30 to $100

...why would I get a D9 again? With the money I save from NOT buying a D9 I could buy a set of nice double steel tanks, including bands and manifold. Again, to me it's just a complete waste of money.

Sparticle, while that may be true, I didn't come in here to hate on people. I was really just curious why someone would want to spend a small fortune on a D9, and if it had some features that they felt made it better than other powerful computers out there that are similarly priced.

Hey guys...

Don't bash the rec. computer based on your tech background... ;) It is a rec. computer having all bells and whisles like a fancy microwave :)

You know why, PerroneFord...

Because most rec. divers had no idea about other tech oriented computer like VR3, Niteck He, Cochran, etc....when they got it.. And, they don't intend to get into the tech field, too.

hoosier,

I have heard a number of divers talking about how the d9 can be used for technical diving with it's gas switching and so forth. So not all of them are "uninformed" recreational divers.

No..... I don't buy that argument. They are just trying to justify their choice.

I have D9, too. It can't be compared to any tech oriented computers.... It is for the rec. diving or possible fancy bottom timer in the gauge mode that I usually set up...;)
