Question Suunto D5 still lock out?

Interested in a D5 but read comments about them locking for 48hrs if it doesn't think you did the deco stop (you tube video saying it locked after he came up from a 2m dive). Anyone know if this has been changed with a software update or an option to disable it as I don't want a computer that locks for 2 days if I dive to the bottom of the pool.

My understanding is it also locks out if you use it in free diving / depth gauge mode then switch back to scuba mode on the same day. Perhaps the pool situation you describe is attributable to this?

The deco algorithm incorporates lockout on failure to follow their rules, and there's no option to disable it. Suunto considers this a feature not a bug.

Honestly if you're willing to buy a $1,000 computer, why not consider a Shearwater Teric instead? Shearwater offers all the same features, and additionally runs Buhlmann with GF instead of a proprietary algo, and will never lock you out.

I had the chance to get a used one at a really good price so unfortunatley I don't have $1000 to spend on somthing else in that range, but even at the good used price I am not interested if locks out so thanks for the confirmation, appreciated.

There's been quite a few Perdix AI (2016 version, not the newer 2022 Perdix 2) on the resale forums recently at SB for decent prices (like sub-$700). Might be slightly harder managing shipping to Australia perhaps.

You could also consider Ratio iX3M -- they have a very appealing price point (around €600) and the software can be upgraded to support trimix later.

You’re concerned with getting locked out if you violate a deco stop? Isn’t that like driving through red lights and expecting to not get into a crash? Why would you (or anyone) want a computer that allows you to violate a deco stop??
